Locales & Fallbacks

Adding Locales

  1. Log in to the CMS and navigate to the Settings section through the menu.

  2. Select locales. The Locale Summary screen will be displayed.

  3. Select or Add a task from the top left-hand dropdown.

  4. The Add new locale button will become enabled only once a task is selected. Now select the Add new locale button. A popup with a list of all Locales will be returned, and you can select the required locales.

  5. As you select your locales, the summary at the bottom will be populated to show your selections.

  6. Click save.

  7. Your saved locales will now be available in the Page Editor.

  8. Remember - when adding in new locales for the first time, they will only be visible in your task until the content is approved.

Note - to search for locales, enter either the full name e.g. English or the shortcode. Do not enter the hyphen in the shortcode for the search. So, en-US would be en us or EN US. The search is not case sensitive, but will not return results if you enter a hyphen.

Adding Fallbacks

  1. Once your locales are selected and saved, they appear on the Locale Summary screen. Here is where you can set the Fallbacks for each locale if required.

  2. Select the pen icon next to the Locale you wish to set a fallback for. The fallback field will activate to become an in-line edit field.

  3. Select the locale you wish to be a fallback. Once clicked, it will autosave.

Note: The three rules for selecting fallbacks are;

  1. A locale cannot fallback to itself.

  2. A fallback cannot fallback to a predecessor.

  3. The maximum number of fallbacks in a chain is 5.

  4. These rule exist both within a task, and across tasks.

Remove Fallbacks

  1. Go to Settings, then select Locales.

  2. Click on the pen icon. The fallback inline edit field will activate, and setting the fallback to None is possible. Once clicked, it will autosave.

Note: any content items that do not have content, and were relying on the Fallback will now show *No Content* in the end application or website. Be sure to complete empty content items or remove the components from the locale altogether.
