Notes
Some field types require default values to be explicitly set if enabled, while others can be enabled and left empty.
-
The following field types must set default values, if enabled:
-
Boolean
-
Date Time
-
Number
-
Media Item
-
-
However, the following field types allow empty default values (enabled but no value entered):
-
Text
-
Rich Text
-
Picklist
-
Enabling a default value and leaving it empty is different from disabling it. An enabled, empty default value initialises Content Entries with a Locale value, albeit an empty one, which excludes it from being populated by a fallback value.
Reference Link fields require a value – you must link a Content Type
Reference Link fields do not have default Locale values – the linked Content Type is the same in all Locales
The Name of a Content Type Field must be:
-
Lowercase, uppercase, numbers, and underscores
-
Between 3 and 100 characters long
-
Unique per Content Type
You cannot change the selected Picklist of a Picklist field once saved – to do so, you must delete and recreate the field
Reference Links
You cannot link more than 10 Content Types together using Reference Links
You cannot add a Reference Link that directly or indirectly links back to itself
You cannot change the linked Content Type of a Reference Link field or mark it as a Collection once saved – to do so, you must delete and recreate the field
You can link up to 30 Content Types into Reference Link or Reference link collection
You can set a Content type to private within the parent, however this means that only one content type can be linked to that Reference link or Reference link collection field.
Warnings
Content Types created inline with Create new that have not yet been saved are deleted when the parent unlinks or deletes the referencing field
